Making surfing a sustainable, transnational tourism product, that would provide broad visibility for the product itself and its market uptake. This was the main aim of this project.

 

  • BASIC INFORMATION

    This project helped to position Europe better as a sustainable, innovative and top-quality surfing tourist destination.

    It proposed to establish a European surfing route across five countries:

    • Viana do Castelo (Portugal)
    • Ribamontán al Mar (Cantabria)
    • San Sebastián (Basque Country)
    • Region of Britanny (France)
    • Bundoran (Ireland)
    • South-west England
    • Wales (United Kingdom)
    • The Channel Islands (United Kingdom)

    The specific aims of the project were:

    • Promoting surfing destinations on European coasts complemented by integrated tourism services
    • Presenting a sustainable offer of surfing holidays
    • Ensuring the quality of the product as a unique selling point in the surfing holidays on offer
    • Promoting the circulation of tourists related to surfing
    • Highlighting beaches and waves as an economic and social development resource for local communities.
  • MAIN ACTIONS

    This is what was carried out:

    • ´SURFINGEUROPE Product Club´ was created: a transnational surfing tourism product club.
    • A transnational surfing tourism product was developed
    • The product was promoted (a web page and a corporate image were created, a marketing plan was designed, workshops were organized with tour operators, a wave catalogue in the target destinations was drawn up…)

    The SURFINGEUROPE Project was co-funded by COSME, the EU SME competitiveness programme.
