    Reflecting the spirit and innovative character of the inhabitants of Donostia-San Sebastián, private local investors created Fomento San Sebastián to promote the development of the city.

    The Town Hall of San Sebastián acquires shares of the society and Fomento San Sebastian becomes. a municipal public company

  • 2004

    After a profound strategic review, we redirect our activity towards the promotion of innovation, focusing on people, business projects and the ecosystem

    Reference agent for the promotion of innovation in the city

  • 2024

    Innovation and entrepreneurship in the heart of the city
    We are opening the EKINN space, a node of innovation and entrepreneurship. EKINN aims to promote a strategy for the development and attraction of entrepreneurial talent, accelerating innovative projects, committing to the development of entrepreneurial culture and especially generating a new space that facilitates connection and collaboration as a key factor for generating opportunities and new projects with impact.

  • 2025

    Recognition as the most innovative European city in the European Capital of Innovation Awards (iCapital)
    The European Commission recognises San Sebastian's model, which combines science, talent and citizen participation to promote innovation with a social impact in the region, awarding it second place in the Emerging Innovative City 2026 category. This recognition, granted by the European Commission through the European Innovation Council (EIC), places the city among the European leaders in urban innovation, applied science and public-private collaboration.
