The city of San Sebastián is to play host to the LALIGA FC Pro Cup for the first time in the tournament’s history. The event is to be held in the Kursaal’s Conference Centre and Auditorium over 2 days, 6 and 7 April, as part of a larger programme flying the competition’s colours in this northern city.

The LALIGA FC Pro Cup is to be held in San Sebastián for the next two years thanks to the agreement struck by economic development agency for the capital of Gipuzkoa province Fomento San Sebastián, which wishes to make the city a venue for these kinds of major events which home in on the use of technology, and young people play a leading role.

The event, a chance to bring the world of sport to the city, has arrived in Donostia thanks to Fomento San Sebastián’s work and interests common to LALIGA and Real Sociedad football team, and also the Kursaal Centre, which will be ready to host an event with a huge social and media impact.

The event was presented by Local Economy and Employment Councillor, Ane Oyarbide; the managing director of Fomento de San Sebastián, Iñigo Olaizola; and the head of LALIGA’s Digital Strategy, Alfredo Bermejo.

Local Economy and Employment Councillor Ane Oyarbide pointed out how important it is for San Sebastián to host such an important event as LALIGA FC Pro Cup, which will transform the city into the capital of electronic sports, an activity which is rapidly multiplying followers and already commands a large industry. She also noted the major economic dimension aspect and jobs in relation to the industry of videogames and sport competitions. This is an extremely dynamic economic sector, in keeping with the positioning of San Sebastián as a city of innovation and technology, generating a large volume of jobs – and an industry with a very bright future. Oyarbide hopes all fans will converge on the Kursaal on 6 and 7 April for a fun event, and to support Real Sociedad, a competitor in the tournament.

The head of Digital Strategy at LALIGA, Alfredo Bermejo, pointed out the huge opportunity represented by the arrival of the LALIGA FC Pro Cup in San Sebastián, for the city and also for LALIGA, as a fresh chance to bring the event to the community of tournament fans and also to create synergies and opportunities for the younger population. Moreover, an event carried through by LALIGA, the local institutions in San Sebastián and the Real Sociedad team is a definite guarantee of success.

Admittance to the event will be free of charge, and visitors will be able to check out the biggest national competition EA SPORTS FC 24, in which 24 LALIGA FC Pro clubs will be contending for the largest prize pool in the history of the Cup.
