  • Observaciones: The role involves working on the valorisation of biological waste for the design and preparation of sustainable materials. The candidate will work with organic waste from various sources, as well as agro-industrial materials. The goal is to extract the cellulosic and chitinous components. Specifically, the work will focus on date palm waste, as well as fungi of various species (both fruiting bodies and mycelium), seafood waste, and green cuts, prioritizing local species. The materials will be extracted using a top-down isolation method based on mechanical and chemical treatments (mostly NaOH, HCl, and H₂O₂). The resulting material will be characterized in terms of its physical and mechanical properties (X-ray diffraction, Fourier spectroscopy, electron microscopy, and tensile and compressive strength). The possibility of developing hydrogels will also be explored, which could then be used as adhesives or for agricultural applications where maintaining high water retention levels is essential. An additional objective is to develop a demonstrator for the development of bio-based food coatings and packaging materials.
