Traditional municipal management used to be in the hands of separate departments that did not share information. This made it difficult to get the global picture and hindered functional or operating coordination efforts. The arrival of ICT at town level has resulted in more efficient, automated management of urban infrastructure, offering better services at lower costs. In line with these developments, SmartKalea offers a smart integrated platform that monitors data and integrates systems in real time.

The platform produces indicators and follow-up reports to improve municipal administration. It integrates data from a variety of systems as they are displayed in the SmartKalea project (electric energy, water, people counting/tracking, mobility, environmental information, and so on), as well as data from other sources (weather, event calendar, and so forth). For each individual area, the platform integrates use/consumption data in real time, showing graphics and turning the collected data into valuable information for decision making and understanding of system status.
