What is the Donostia - San Sebastián Film Commission (SSFC)?

Donostia – San Sebastián Film Commission is a service provided by Fomento de San Sebastián and the San Sebastián City Council to promote and boost the city and the local audiovisual industry. Its main activity is the Office for the public and capturing film shoots for the city.

The San Sebastián Film Commission is not a profit-making organisation. It is an office depending on the San Sebastian city council and Fomento de San Sebastian, in charge of the city's economic development.

What do you have to do to film in Donostia - San Sebastián?

To shoot or carry out a photographic session in San Sebastian, you have to fill in an application form giving the details of the production company, shooting needs and its economic details.

This application can be made via our website, downloading the file or by contacting us at filmcommission@donostia.org or by phone on 943 48 28 00.

It is also important to remember that the film permit must be applied for 10 days before filming in public (streets, squares, parks, etc.) and in car parks or places where the traffic must be stopped. The deadline extends to 20 days for filming on the beaches.

How much does it cost to film in Donostia - San Sebastián?

As a general rule, it does not cost anything to film in public places (streets, parks, gardens, squares, etc.). It is free to reserve parking spaces, as long as the permit is processed by the Donostia-San Sebastián Film Commission.

For zones that are shared with other institutions, it is advisable to check prices (public buildings, beaches, etc.).

The production company will cover any possible costs incurred by filming: cleaning, contracting security, surveillance, etc.

It is important that you realise that Donostia-San Sebastián Film Commission services are free.

What insurance do I need to film in Donostia - San Sebastián?

Each production must have Civil Responsibility insurance that covers all possible damage that production employees might cause to a third party. This insurance must be in force from the start of the production until the post-production process finishes, and it is mandatory for most film sets.

To record in certain places, the administrating entity will request other types of insurance, endorsement and even a deposit for possible damage.

It is also important to remember that the film permit must be applied for 10 days before filming in public (streets, squares, parks, etc.) and in car parks or places where the traffic must be stopped. The deadline extends to 20 days for filming on the beaches.

What is the Made in San Sebastian programme?

Made in San Sebastian is a programme from the Donostia-San Sebastian Film Commission to make filming cheaper in our city.

A Made in San Sebastian card gives the production company the right to benefit from discounts (a minimum of 10%) in the products and services offered by companies in the programme.

To do this, our Film Commission has produced a Made In San Sebastian directory that gives the contact data for the companies, their products and services and the discounts they offer.

How do I get the card to benefit from the Made in San Sebastian programme?

To obtain the Made in San Sebastian card, you have to film in San Sebastian.

The production company in charge of the shoot will request this card from the Donostia – San Sebastián Film Commission, who will send it once the production company has been granted the right recording permits.
