The European Hotmaps project, in which Fomento San Sebastián participates as a demonstration city, offers a training on energy planning

On April 27th starts a free online training organised by Hotmaps in English. This training is directed to people working for a local, regional and or national authority that is responsible for heating and cooling topics, but also to planners or consultants in this field. The training sessions will take place between May 4 and 12 through a series of online webinars, where the Hotmaps tool will be used in a practical way. Participants will receive a certificate after submitting completed training materials at the end of the intensive training days.

Heating and cooling in residential and industrial sectors accounts for half of the EU’s energy consumption, and more than 80% of this energy is still generated from fossil fuels. Meanwhile, heat losses are also significantly high. This sector needs to be transformed.

HOTMAPS is an open source online software, which allows to provide within 5 minutes a first estimation of heating and cooling demand in a specific region and the potentials of local renewable energy to cover this demand. By using more detailed data, thanks to its calculation modules, comprehensive heating and cooling strategies you be elaborated.

HOTMAPS supports planning processes of the energy sector on the local level in a transparent manner, thanks to: a starting data set, customisations of the software for specific needs, training and support services. The software was developed by leading research institutions across Europe together with 7 cities.Fomento de San Sebastián, Aalborg, Frankfurt, Geneva, Kerry County, Milton Keynes and Bistrita have tested and validated the values of Hotmaps in seven pilot areas.

The Hotmaps team organises an online training in English between 27th April and 12th May 2020:

  • Mon 27th April, 10:00 – 11:00: a preparatory webinar to explain the training programme and the guiding materials,
  • Mon 4th May – Mon 11th May: intensive training days. Participants will perform the Hotmaps 5 step process for generating scenarios of future heating and cooling for a selected region. It requires around 1-2h per step. The Hotmaps team will provide explanation sessions and support sessions to answer participants’' questions.
  • Tue 12th May, 15:00 – 16:30: Wrap up session and final remarks.

Training is free and you will receive a training certificate, if you have filled out the questionnaire at the end of the 1st week and uploaded the filled training materials at the end of the intensive training days.

This training is directed to people working for a local, regional and or national authority that is responsible for heating and cooling topics, but also to planners or consultants in this field. More information about the content of the training, the exact timing and the registration here.
