Fomento de San Sebastián presents the Replicate, Smartkalea and OptEEmal projects at the Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona

Fomento de San Sebastián (Department of Economic Development) is taking part in the Barcelona Smart City Expo World Congress, a leading international event for smart cities. The congress is taking place on 13, 14 and 15 November in Barcelona and will attract around 20,000 visitors from more than 120 countries.

Fomento de San Sebastián, is participating, on the one hand, as coordinator of the European lighthouse project Replicate, co-financed as part of the H2020 Programme, contract number 691735 (European SCC1 Smart Cities and Communities funding programme), at a stand (No. D498) promoted by the European Commission, together with other lighthouse projects in addition to the EIP-SCC (European Innovation Partnership for Smart Cities and Communities) and SCIS (Smart Communities Information System). This is the third year that the Replicate project has participated in this Congress, reporting on the progress made so far. The initiatives implemented by the project in the fields of energy efficiency, sustainable mobility and ICTs/Infrastructures, which are being developed in the district of Urumea Riverside District in San Sebastian, are entering their final phase of execution. Among others, the District Heating, which provides heating and hot water, is the latest initiative rolled out. The District Heating will supply more than 1,500 new homes and 156 renovated homes in the residential neighbourhood of Txomin with renewable energy.

Fomento de San Sebastian is also participating in the conference organised as part of the European OpEEmal project (Horizon 2020), in which it is a partner, presenting the case study of San Sebastian, which focuses on the energy retrofitting and supply provided by District Heating to 156 homes in the neighbourhood of Txomin-Enea. OptEEmAL aims to develop a platform to design energy retrofitting projects for districts, providing an integrated and optimised design and reducing project development time, resulting in better retrofitting solutions.

Fomento de San Sebastian also presented the SmartKalea project alongside Ikusi, a partner in the project and a member of the Donostia Smart Cluster, at an event organised by Signify-Phillips around experiences of collaboration and partnership in cities with connected lighting. SmartKalea is a pilot project for a public-private partnership, coordinated by Fomento de San Sebastian, integrating within a single street different smart implementations in collaboration with shops/restaurants, residents, local technology partners and municipal departments, and is being implemented in different streets and neighbourhoods in the city of San Sebastian.

In addition, the San Sebastian Smart strategy will be presented at the ALIMA stand (Basque Environment Cluster) (E509), a strategy of which the two aforementioned projects are part, along with other activities and projects, which establishes the strategic line pursued by the city to promote social, economic and environmental sustainability.
