Following the visit to the Txomin-Enea demo site in San Sebastian, the OptEEmal project enters its final phase

Fomento de San Sebastián is participating as one of the three demonstrator cities, along with Trento in Italy and Lund in Sweden, in the OptEEmAL (Optimised Energy Efficient Design Platform for Refurbishment at District Level) project, co-funded by the European Union within the Horizon 2020 programme.

The OptEEmAL project (www.opteemal-project.eu) faces the final working months to complete the development of a design platform for energy retrofitting projects at a district level. The consortium meeting held at the headquarters of NOBATEK (Anglet) on 2nd, 3rd and 4th October 2018 marks the beginning of the final phase of the project, in which the role of the pilot cities takes on a great deal of relevance to test the developed platform in specific and real projects in the three cities.

In the case of San Sebastian, the demo site under study in the OptEEmAL project focuses on the energy retrofitting and connection to the District Heating of 156 dwellings in the Txomin-Enea neighbourhood. The platform will enable different retrofitting scenarios to be simulated and tested, showing the optimum retrofitting solution.

It must also be pointed out that a delegation from the OptEEmAL project visited the Txomin-Enea demo site last August to find out in detail the current situation of the buildings and the urbanisation process that is taking place there, including the neighbourhood’s District Heating system (further information at:https://www.opteemal-project.eu/news/16/343/visit-to-our-opteemal-demo-site-in-san-sebastin.html).

Over the forthcoming months, and in collaboration with different agents and companies in the city, two workshops will be held within the framework of the Txomin–Enea demo site, in which the platform developed in the OptEEmAL project will be revealed and tested as well as the specific study case in San Sebastian.

The OptEEmAL project is led by the CARTIF Technology Centre (Valladolid) and includes the participation of 13 European partners. It began at the end of 2015 and will be completed during the spring 2019. OptEEmAL is in the final phase of development of the design platform for energy retrofitting projects at a district level, providing an integrated and optimised design, reducing the project development time, leading to better retrofitting solutions.
